SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
Bachelor’s Program in Building Systems Engineering - Description
The Bachelor’s Program in Building Systems Engineering emphasizes an integrated and holistic approach to understanding, analyzing and addressing issues related to building engineering systems. Upon graduation, students will possess the skills to engage in the design, installation, maintenance and management of individual engineering systems within buildings. Furthermore, they will have a comprehensive understanding of the interdependencies, tasks and challenges associated with these systems, enabling them to effectively evaluate and address them in practical applications.
The program offers students interdisciplinary courses aimed at fostering complex thinking and engineering problem-solving skills, preparing them to become future leaders in various engineering domains. These include building engineering systems, infrastructure, electrical and mechanical equipment, as well as structural systems engineering.
The interdisciplinary training within the program is informed by market research, which indicates a shortage of qualified engineering professionals in Georgia in the aforementioned areas. Consequently, companies often need to recruit personnel from abroad or provide on-the-job training to graduates with backgrounds in physics and other related fields to meet the demand for engineers in these specialized areas.
The program draws upon the experiences of comparable international programs, such as those at Concordia University and Victoria University, while also considering the local context and the necessity of instruction in Georgian. Its aim is to enhance the quality of engineering education in Georgia to meet international standards.
Upon successful completion of the 4-year program, the graduate is awarded the qualification - Bachelor of Building Systems Engineering.
